MACHER JHALDA (FISH IN MUSTARD PASTE WITH ONION)
( I tasted this dish during my stay in Burdwan In West Bengal. It tastes really yummy and a typical dish of Bankura, Burdwan district. I have added ingredients according to my taste. It is a dish enjoyed by my family and friends. It tastes better with Fishes like Charapona, Bata mach, Parshe.)
INGREDIENTS
Fish ( rohu/ katla/parshe/king fish)- 4 pieces
Turmeric-2 teaspoons
Redchilly powder- 1 teaspoon
Jeera powder- ½ teaspoon
Mustard Paste- 2 teaspoon
Onion- 1 big (sliced)
Water-1/2 cup
Green Chilly- 3
Salt-to taste
Oil- 4 tablespoonfuls (Preferably Mustard Oil)
Apply salt and 1 spoon haldi to fish. Marinate fish for 10 minutes. In a wok/frying pan heat oil. Fry fish brown. Remove fish and keep aside. In the same oil, fry the onion till golden brown. Add the mustard paste, Jeera powder, haldi and Red chilly powder. Fry for sometime till oil separates. Add the water and the fish pieces. Boil for 5-7 minutes till the masala paste blends well on fish. At end add slitted greenchilly. Serve hot with boiled rice.
